with
Clean, Always Ready Generation

PowerSecure announced a strategic alliance with Bright Canyon Energy.

The partnership will help accelerate product development and customer solutions in a fast-changing market by ensuring best-in-class advanced microgrids that provide always-ready generation, energy resiliency, power quality, environmental sustainability and grid support for end user utility customers.

This partnership collaborated on the Joint Forces Training Base energy resiliency project in Los Alamitos, CA.

The project will enhance energy resiliency by including an advanced microgrid capable of powering the base’s critical missions for a minimum of 14 days during a grid outage and supports the Army Climate Strategy goal to build a microgrid on every installation by 2035.

PowerSecure’s role includes the advanced microgrid:

  • Engineering / Design
  • Manufacturing of:
    • EPA Tier 4 Final Generation
    • Medium Voltage Switchgear
    • Advanced Microgrid Controls
  • Solar / BESS Integration
  • Medium Voltage Electrical Construction
  • Utility Interconnection
  • Commissioning

Project Details

  • Bright Canyon Energy (BCE) will construct, own, operate, and maintain the energy resilience project that provides carbon-free electricity to the CA grid.
  • The project will include 26MW of solar-generated electricity, a 20MW / 40 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), 3MWs of backup clean generation, and a microgrid control system.
  • The project supports the Army Climate Strategy goal to build a microgrid on every installation by 2035.
  • The project will enhance energy resiliency by providing power for critical JFTB-LA missions for a minimum of 14 days during electrical grid outages.
  • During normal operations, BCE will sell energy to San Diego Gas and Electric via the Southern California Edison transmission system.
  • The project will enhance grid reliability by adding distributed generation near load center to alleviate transmission line congestion.
  • The BESS will provide power quality improvements to the local electric grid.
  • The project includes a 30 – year lease term for approximately 100 acres.
